GEORGIA INGRAM

Designer/Maker

Design is all around us and through observation and analysis of this Georgia is constantly evolving as a designer and maker. She is interested in the architecture of nature whether it’s on a microscopic or surface level. This interest in the micro and macro means that her research includes scientific discoveries and imagery. Georgia finds that combining creative thinking and the facts, figures and proof scientists can provide leads to outcomes that she wouldn’t have been able to dream of previously

Georgia’s practice has led her to make a variety of work from sculptural to more product design. She often creates work on a large scale which creates an immersive experience. By being quite a material led artist she finds that her idea development really comes from the handling and manipulation of materials, this inevitably leads her off in different directions. The colours she uses tend to be related to the natural world in some way, whether it’s flowers, bees or an oceanic phenomenon.

She is starting to evolve into a geometric style work with an emphasis on repeated patterns. She enjoys the look of geometry and  thinks it can often look quite striking when placed against contrasting surfaces. Textiles is something which she has always experimented with in her spare time, but she is now starting to bring into her work. Georgia thinks that textiles will broaden her horizons in terms of texture and pattern. The idea that she could dye her own fabrics using flowers, roots etc from the garden is really exciting and means she could have a deeper connection to nature in her work. Due to the direction her work Is currently going, it only seems natural to start making and exploring textiles. Georgia is currently interested in production and working as part of a design team to produce beautiful lighting and other homeware, so by combining her interests In textiles, repeating patterns and science, she thinks there is some potential to create something unique that people would like.
